I need a hobby

With the conclusion of the spring semester, I no longer have anything to do after work other than chores and maybe making dinner.  What do people do after work? I want to avoid drinking without an occassion.  I thought about getting back into shape but...even that's only an hour or two of time out of each day. TV bores me. Videosift is what I do at work, so I don't want to burn out on that on my free time.  Here are some options.  Feel free to add to the list.

  •  Read
  •  Fix my computer
  •  Start writing music/songs again
  •  work out
  •  Independent studies
  •  Try to find side work
  •  Shut the fuck up and enjoy my "free" time

Do you collect anything?
Do you grow anything?
Do you tinker with anything?

There are usually organizations built around those kinds of interests. The age range of participants might be a consideration, however.

Locally there's a Young Leadership Council that does projects for the city.

I don't collect anything. Don't grow anything. I've never really tinkered for anything other than necessity. Volunteering is a good idea on occasion.

Learn to cook. Or if you already cook, cook more often. If you need motivation watch Robert Rodriguez' '10 minute cooking school' special feature on the "Once upon a Time in Mexico" DVD. and I quote: "Not being able to cook is like not being able to fuck."

For the fundamentals, buy "How to Cook Everything" or "How to Cook Everything Vegetarian" by Mark Bittman, it covers the main ingredient groups (grains, meats, fruits, etc), recipe types (soups, breakfasts, pies, etc), and equipment.

I LOVE weekends because I can start they day with something awesome like a quiche or stuffed crepes, start some bread dough, go to a farmers market and supermarket/butcher for fresh ingredients, make a nice salad/sandwich for lunch (left over roast beef and sauerkraut, yum), do some errands (or bake a pie with fresh fruit), and finish the day with a nice oven roast (pork loin or beef rib roast with veggies), fresh bread and wine.

Wow, seriously? It used to be like $5-$7 when I went. And Seaport Village used to be free, they started charging for that too I heard.

Are you artistic? You mentioned music, but do you draw? Have you wanted to? And with the reading, have you ever wanted to explore a certain area, ie. Shakespeare, the 'Classics', etc. I know how you're feeling though, as I too just finished classes. Been catching up on some of the video games I've missed out on now that I got this new rig. But that too get's boring. Wish I knew what to tell you mang.
