awesome - jet fighter flying incredibly close to mountains (Swiss Air Force)

You're right. those are Mirage III RS. The swiss air force had 60 of them since 1965. ironically they received completely new electronics and computer systems (i bet expensive ones) shortly before they were dismissed in 1999. few of them served for training and reconnaissance until 2005. i had to deal with them during my military service in air defence, and though i'm kind of a pacifist and environmentalist, i have to admit they're both beautiful and impressive and it was fascinating to watch them.

You're actually right. I wrote an awfully long comment on that for http://www.videosift.com/story.php?id=7524. It's probably a question of our countries history. switzerland was a republic and for a very long time the only democracy in europe, surrounded by monarchies. our neighbour countries also were becoming national states with one predominant nationality, i.e. a german state for germans, a french for the french and so on. but there is no "swiss" nationality, only a german-siwss, a french- and an italian-swiss, making switzerland a country with 3 different cultures and languages. the uprising nationalism all over europe, beginning around 1800, supported the fear of getting "absorbed" by the neighbour countries and finally led to the feeling of being isolated and surrounded by hostiles. this may be the rason for the strange antipathy towards the rest of europe that is sometimes still observable today. (i.e. when swiss-germans celebrate when the german national soccer team loses or even stranger when there are parades of honking cars showing the joy of italian-swiss about an italian defeat.)
