This week, Zero Punctuation reviews MadWorld.

Wha..? I mean... How? 7 seconds. Got beat to sifting it by 7 bloody seconds.

Having said that, at least I didn't have to sift a review for a Wii game. I mean c'mon. The Wii. So 2006.

Maybe I'm just clinging to the Wii because it's the only console in this generation I own and I just don't want to fork out another couple hundred bucks. Yes, I chose poorly, now will you stop salting my wounds?!!

Zifnabsays...

The only console I own as well is the Wii, but I'm not a console gamer. I play PC games most of the time. The Wii is for my Son mainly and my wife enjoys it as well. For the type of games they want to play it's perfect.

I played a couple of levels and thought it was fun. The visual style is a big plus and the jazzy hip hip soundtrack is a nice change of pace from the usual generic action/rock music. I'll probably pick it up when it goes on sale.

Also, I love my wii and play with it often.

The Wii was awesome the first time I played it. We were slightly drunk and jumping all over the place swinging the controller around. As the alcohol wore off and I became tired I figured out that I could just slump on the couch and waggle it around using only my wrist* and it was just as effective if not more so.

*I think there is no way to discuss the Wii without it sounding dirty. Best to just roll with it then.

True. No controller can really outdo a mouse and keyboard. Also, I can upgrade my PC as I see fit.

The first time he's said something that gives me the irrates really.

I have a Wii, I've never had another console, I have a Wii for me and the kids to be able to play games. I also have a high spec PC gaming rig.

However I never have time any more these days to actually play games. The last one I did was Bioshock, and I had to squeeze in games of that at night when the kids were in bed and the wife was out with friends or something.

Now... I've qualified myself.

Saying developers shouldn't create games aimed at a market above the 'casual gamer' gives me the utter shits.

What about Resident Evil 4 (Which the Wii version is said to be the best)? What about the upcoming The Conduit?, what about Indiana Jones, what about Ghostbusters? All of these seem like games that I would love to play, and while Ghostbusters and Indiana Jones are ones that my 4 and 5 year olds may well like to play as well, the others aren't. Why poo poo these games? Why not think that maybe it's pretty cool to be able to play a fps, moving around with an analogue controller while aiming with something approaching an actual gun?

I don't get his absolute hatred of the attempts to broaden the appeal of the console. Sure it doesn't have the graphical power of the other two, but surely HE understands that graphics aren't everything (have you SEEN his games?). He seems perfectly happy to have FPS games on consoles with their annoying dual analogue controller configuration, but wails when a console with controls that really lend themselves to a genre is actually used for said genre.

Right... I will now return to NOT taking him seriously anymore.

Ahem.

Well, I had high hopes for MadWorld, but Yahtzee's stamp of crap does make me skeptical. I'm not sure if it's because I really like the art direction or if it's because the Wii is the first and only console I've ever bought (I love my PC for gaming, the Wii is for family/my wife's friends) and I really wanted to get some good games on it that aren't neon colored and staring Mario. It's interesting that Yahtzee admits to hating both these things, so I may like this game after all.

I've heard that it's a game you have to play through once before it really starts to get good (Amazon reviews reflect this too). Yahtzee seems to have missed that fact.

Old will be new again once Wii MotionPlus comes out in June. Though it's probably best to wait until July and pick it up with Wii Sports Resort.

^Dude, I wasn't being serious Honestly, how could someone say the Wii is old and therefore in some way bad (not that it doesn't have cons, it's just NOT old and NOT bad because of that).

No, me, I like vintage games - still take out my old Sega occasionally and have a match of Mortal Kombat 3 with a couple of mates

You raise some good points, but RE4 was a last generation game built originally for the gamecube; of course it's going to translate well to the wii.

The PS360 is the current bastion of "hardcore" console gaming, and takes priority of the Wii. So you end up getting shitty ports; or a game like Redsteel, which tries to cash in on the novelty of the Wii controller without taking the effort to provide compelling gameplay; or games like Madworld which goes "hey, we know our game isn't good enough to make it in the big leagues, so lets make it Wii exclusive because there's much less competition"

I guess what Yahtzee is saying is, publishers should stop making hardcore games for the Wii for all the wrong reasons, especially when they have no idea how to get it right.
