ospprodsays...I first saw this as a parody on Family Guy. When I first saw this version, it only made the parody much more funnier.
daphnesays...I LOVE this man. I have the double album with Leonard ("Ballad of Bilbo Baggins" is a classic). So so so brilliant. He is the master of satire - you just didn't know if he was serious or not. See how no one was laughing? I would have been in tears. SO FUNNY!
I hope someone finds the "Mr. Tamborine Man" song. And "Lucy in Disguise." He needs a toothpick for all the scenery he chews.
Shatner is a genius.

Really Daphne, are you sure it's satire? I know that now he kind of does a parody of his old self and yucks it up. But ... I think back in this era he was pure cheese, and took himself at least semi-seriously.
Anyway - this is a great video in all respects.
deathcowsays...this was not satire!
deathcowsays...i cant do it, I cannot watch this, it is too painful, this is the first videosift item which was too painful... even the average white rapper is less painful
daphnesays...That's why this is such brilliant Satire...it walks that razor-thin line and makes you wonder.
I thought he was serious, too...but then I came across the double album a few years ago. It's produced like a "spoken word" but there are too many tongue-in-cheek comments on the sleeve for it to be real. He's a notorious prankster, and has a really weird sense of humor.
Oh...and he has a new album out. We play it at work and watch the customers scratch their heads...it's a riot.

when I think of razor thin satire, where you're not sure if it's a joke, I think of Andy Kaufman, but with him, eventually you see there is a mind behind the satire, and you are let in on the joke.
I don't think, at least in the late 70s, that the Shatman was performing this kind of razor-thin satire. I like him, but I think you give him to much credit.
atomlysays...William Shatner's cover of Pulp's "Common People" is one of my favorite singles of the last few years.
James Roesays...yeah I tried to find a video of that with no luck.. I love that song.
