The Ultimate Guitar Hero is 9 years old

The force is strong with this one

why is that sad? Who's to say this game doesn't get him interested in music? Maybe not the guitar, but the drums would be pretty natural for someone with his rhythm. When people play a football game, you don't go tell them to play in the nfl, why should this be any different?

We saw this last night. Everyone is so quick to criticize the game, I'd like to add something positive.
I bought GH 2 over the summer for my kids. They LOVED it. They loved it so much that they have done nothing but beg for a real guitar from week 2 of having the game. Well they got their wishes and both received electric guitars for Christmas. They enjoy learning from their Dad, but they are harping me to pay for lessons which I will.

Now I wish there was Trumpet Hero, Piano Hero, Drum Hero, Clarinet Hero, Violin Hero, Harpsicord Hero, Cleaning Room Hero, Latin Hero, Western Civilization Hero, Brushing Teeth Hero, Walking Dogs Hero....

I'd like to add my 2 cents here.

We have Guitar Hero 1, 2, and Rock Band at my house.

Ever since I was a kid I begged for a drum set but I could never get one... my parents said I'd just play it for a bit then quit. When Rock Band was announced I was so excited because I would get to play the drums. Its a fantasy thing... but the thing is Rock Band actually teaches you drums. I practiced the heck out of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's song "Maps" on Expert mode.

Now I just gotta go into a Guitar Center and rock out the song once I figure out what drums are what.

my third son is master of GH. He kicks many kinds of ass at it. He begged for a guitar so we got him one and his grandparents pay for lessons. Of course he never practices his real guitar unless I make him because he's always playing Guitar Hero 3.

I'm with MINK, guitar hero is crack for kids with no talent, but good hand-eye and motor skills that they have honed with hours and hours wasted, with a game controller and a mom that can't afford babysitters, or would rather not try hard enough, to raise a formidable representative of the species......

Bet he gets all the chicks...

Seriously though, Guitar Hero is as much about learning to play guitar as TF2 is about learning to kill people. It's about FUN.
I used to be a naysayer until I played it and realised how much fun it is.

I'm a grown-ass man, and I think these games are really fun.

I grew up wasting time on crazy-long role playing games (chrono trigger, earthbound, etc.). I was fortunate and eventually got a drumset, a film camera, and had other real-world distractions (...girls), but I still think a well designed, immersive video game serves a purpose.
