TYT: Why Taxing Pot Make So Much Sense?

A win-win. Legalize and Tax.

Ah, conservatism. Trying to balance the desire to keep government out of people's private lives with the desire to enforce conservative "morals" in those same people.

Maybe the Republican party will get replaced by the Libertarian party... fiscal conservatism without the social conservatism. I can think of a few Republicans that would jump ship if they thought they could get elected as Libertarians.

I'm not so fond of the "tax the shit out of it" approach. The goal of groups like NORML isn't to JUST legalize the use of cannabis. It should be treated as any consumer good. If i choose to enjoy my porch differently than my neighbor, why should i have to support the war more?

I hope it's legalized here! And just legalized, so that I can grow my own and smoke it. I should have been able to do that from the beginning. What we call "progress" and "change" these days, is mainly just getting rid of tired old traditions and backwards policies. Moving forward, for real, would be giving people the freedom to grow this plant, and smoke its buds.. no tax, no intrusion.. no nothing.

Nothing new. It used to be legal and taxed in the past, blame stupidity and racism as to the reason it's in the state it is now. Don't forget the government machine, once it gets going it's almost impossible to stop, slow down or change policy on.

To be perfectly blunt about it, if it is taxed and legislated. You'll need to adjust laws from the ground up as well. Up here in Canada I don't expect to see it legalized in form until the new facility is up and running to process people, and compel evidence under CC S.253, for people who operate impaired under a drug. Once that happens, the courts and police with reasonable and probable grounds will be able to compel swabs of people who they believe are driving under the influence of something.

Awaits screams of -dna data bank- considering that the legislation is already in the works and has been for years, and it's already mandated by law and privacy law up here that it can never be kept(heads would roll otherwise), don't worry.

I've had my papers for roughly 6 months now. You can literally drive 3 or 4 blocks in California and find a pot shop. Best hundred bucks I ever spent. The sheer number of strains, ranging in potency and graded by effect; no more head shops, it's all inclusive: sativa, indica, cush, hybrids, hash, hash bars (Venice Beach), vapes, bongs and thongs with leaf prints. I'm loving Cali right now.

$1.20 or $18 per 1000 pounds??? that's ridiculous. Think of the taxes on a bottle of liquor. $18 per ounce wouldn't even be sightly unreasonable. One of my girlfriends best friend is among the teachers about to be laid of as CA tries to get it's budget under control. Tax the shit out of that stuff Arny!
