Sailboat vs Bridge

(tastefully offensive) A sailboat skipper makes an expensive mistake after miscalculating the height of a drawbridge in Tønsberg, Norway.

No, he was rushing to get through and didn't make it.

The bridge would have opened quite a long way further than we see in the video. The skipper would have seen from quite a long way back and he pushed his luck. The boat is travelling as fast as the engine will push it (it's going just over hull speed, which will be the limit for a displacement boat like this) so he's got his foot well down, and you wouldn't be doing that unless you were rushing. Basically the point at which he accelerated is the point at which he should have stopped, and that point was well before the video started.

If anyone should be lawyering up it should be the authorities who own the bridge. Any damage done could be very expensive and the more idiots like this you get off the water the better it'll be for everyone else...

Longswdsaid:

I don't see a miscalculation, I see an inattentive idiot lowering the bridge when he shouldn't have. Time to lawyer up.
