Reporter Tries Her Best ...But Freaks OUT on Rollercoaster

This poor woman. She has a brave start, but just can't keep composure after it goes over the hill. The poster at YouTube had this to say:
"GMTV reporter on Blackpool Pleasure Beach new inverted looping Rollercoaster "Infusion".
I woke up to this this morning and laughed my ass off as they forced a GMTV reporter to ride the worlds first inverted looping coaster over water. Despite her being scared witless they made her do it again an hour later and this was just as funny."

If you think about actors and their need for reference material, this could be a valuable clip. How much close-up footage is there of people's faces when they're in genuine terror? Not a lot!

I'm often stunned at just how scared people can be in situations which are, in all real terms, very safe. Roller coasters are sensational fun because you get to experience all sorts of sensations you don't usually get to, and to do so in the knowledge that you have a whole lot of safety equipment making sure that you're safe while doing it.

My question to these people (and I have asked some) is what exactly they're afraid of, and really, they can't say, they know that they're safe, it's completely irrational.

So, yeah, fascinating.

spoco, I ride roller coasters *because* they're scary and it's a fun way to face it. I'm acrophobic (fear of heights) and the fact is I can be standing on a concrete balcony with an iron railing and just looking down will terrify me. If someone were to run up behind me and jokingly grab my ankles I'd probably scream bloody murder -- something completely anathema to my personality. That's why they're called phobias. They're irrational, and it's irrational to ask someone "what are you thinking that makes you so scared?" "Duh, I'm thinking I'm fucking scared."

Oh, and you've gotta give this woman props for doing it. I once foolishly took my mom on the "teacups" because I thought that anyone could handle them. She screamed the whole time, and I distinctly remember hearing a few death threats lobbed in my direction. hehehe

@coupland
I too am afraid of heights. It's just that feeling of falling I hate. Though I can get that feeling just by looking over a couple story escalator. I'm not afraid of much else.

I usually avoid roller coasters with the large drops, but I still enjoy the kind (pneumatic and magnetic like the Rock n' Rollercoaster in MGM, Florida) that don't need the big falls for acceleration. I love the loops.

Still, I'm the only one of my friends that will ride on the "barf" rides like the now defunct Chaos that used to be at HersheyPark. That thing was great!
