So is this what's really behind those "instant ice" Sifts posted a while ago? I thought the consensus was freezing with distilled water, but this looks more likely.

Dag, supercooling works in many forms.


For bottled water, there are not enough impurities to for seed crystals, so it cannot form ice if super cooled in undisturbed fridge. Then it will instanly freeze (like in this video).

The difference is one is a super cooled liquid, where this is supersaturated solution that crystalizes and exothermicly creates the same amount of heat in those hand warmers.

Hahaha, I read the title for this post several different times, wondering what "Checoona" was.... then I realized it wasn't in L33T!  Back to chemistry class for me.
