Plane Dumping....Something

Anyone know?
rembarsays...

I don't think anybody would need a cloud large enough that a 747 is required to carry all the necessary chemicals, I think most seeding is done with much smaller planes (think crop duster) and/or rockets.

"(Evergreen International Airlines) is completing final modifications on a Boeing 747-200 aircraft modified to be a Supertanker to fight fires. The airline was awaiting final approval from the FAA, which arrived in the last week of October 2006. With this it will be adding a giant aircraft to its current fleet of fire fighting aircraft. This Supertanker will offer at least seven times more drop capability as compared to the current largest airtanker. Its capacity to carry a large volume of Fire retardant will considerably decrease the time taken in fighting large fires."

I think that's what this is. It was so high up probably because it was a demo or test run.

that definatly correct then ?? a 747 seems hugely inappropriate anyhow. Also, the air tankers normally drop fire retardant, which is usually coloured.

my $1 is on them dumping fuel before a forced landing (either real or more likely practice what with it being filmed), which i think is standard operating proceedure.

rensays...

if it was practise then why would they shower the land below with fuel, not to mention the cost of dumping actual fuel.
It's a fire fighting plane, no doubt, water was used as a test and the chase plane was there to film it doing a full dump.

This is a 747 dumping fuel. Notice how the fuel exits the wings rather than the belly, far from the engines so the fuel can't ignite on the way out.

I'm relatively sure I'm correct about this, this was most likely either a test run or a demo for film or both, and nobody would drop fire retardant if it's not necessary, thus the water.
