I might be heading back to school for nuclear physics, hope you all are dreaming big too. When I was a kid, the dream I was sold was get rich and try and retire as fast as you can. Now, I have a new dream, to work till I die, fingers to the bone on what I love. If we start today preparing the way for richness of life, and not prosperity, like Neil pointed out, you great a greater deal of both. You can't legislate it, you have to spark it. Neil Tyson and Kirk Sorensen (both NASA boys) have done that for me, and given me a dream of the future I want to help create.

I have to admit...I was kinda against just funding NASA for innovations and this idea that we should dream big. I felt that we have real problems that we need to fix and we need to address those first.

After that speech though I feel more behind Neil deGrasse Tyson. He cited some examples not as many as I would like but he pointed out that we can help ourselves by inspiring new generations of clever people to become serious scientists. Now I do think we should be redirecting military funds for education and programs for the betterment of society. Listening to Neil though I realize thinking longer term is also what is needed.

Invest in science, and education and NASA. Pull us out of our dive, stop giving the richest all our money so they can just horde it and turn us into a new form of a 3rd world nation.

I love NDT, but NASA is a pretty unimpressive organization at this point with a few exceptions. The robotic exploration program (which is being cut?) is definitely one of the most impressive elements, though.

I can't really agree with spending federal dollars on manned space exploration. It's a huge expense with a small scientific return. I'd rather see those dollars go to the National Science Foundation or the National Institutes for Health to fund basic research.
