Goldeneye 007 for the Wii - E3 2010

The quintessential 1st-person shooter is back this November. My brothers and I spent far too many hours on the original's multi-player.

I upvote, because, hey, my only console is a Wii, and this looks pretty good.

And I knoooow that the original Goldeneye is indeed regarded as a seminal first person shooter. But really, those of us on PCs at the time were baffled by its popularity. I tried playing it at the time and had the problems I still have today with console shooters (other than Wii)... control accuracy. Trying to play an FPS with an analogue stick kills me (literally, I die a lot)... can't handle it.

Now, with a Wii Remote, or the PS Move or Kinect, maybe, but analogue stick... blurgh. The amount of auto aiming that games have to have in them for consoles is ridiculous.

I, too, loved Goldeneye but didn't understand it being touted as "revolutionary" and game changing. This looks like it might be pretty fun to play.

With that said, I wish Nintendo would re-release Tetrisphere for the Wii virtual console. That game was an absolute blast, and was truly the next evolution of Tetris in every sense of the word. And I didn't even care for the first Tetris that much.

I guess I can continue keeping my fingers crossed.

I'ma ramble like and old person for a bit...

Console gamers LOVED Goldeneye. It was Halo before Halo was around. I remember the jocks at my highschool having a Goldeneye tournament at a local coffee shop and I went, thinking "how quaint, they want to play video games." I pumped myself up, got all ready to play and when I finally got to play (this was my first time ever playing) it was extraordinarily disappointing. It was a shortbus FPS...

But, that's what makes FPS games on consoles fun. I got my ass handed to me in that tournament, just like I would proceed to get my ass handed to me in halo games and CoD games and every other FPS on the console. At the time I had retreated into a smug state of "Those console gamers, they don't know what a real FPS is." But now I realize the err of my ways..

Console FPS games are fun, BECAUSE people are forced to play like handicapped monkeys with rifles. Sometimes it can actually be more fun when everyone is hobbled like that. I've gotten used to it and can appreciate that style of FPS gameplay. I still go back to PC gaming (mouse + keyboard) and absolutely love that as well - but the shortbus FPS style does make for a lot of fun.

That being said, I have no plans on buying this game, or starting to use my Wii again.
