Free Memory Upgrade Scam. Would You Fall For This?

Farhad2000says...

I personally think it's hard for the average honest individual to fall for it, of course I expect the average individual to look for a sale permits and get receipts for expensive laptops.

And again, you can never con someone whose honest

Nah, woulda had me wonderin' when they said I had to leave my laptop there-it takes what, all of 5 ticks to put ram in-most folks that own puters, know as much about them as their car-.."Key goes in, car goes on."

Putties are everywhere, and a good scammer, can sell a snow sandwhich to an Inuit.

There's something that doesn't make sense to me with this. How would the cons get access into a vacant shop-front as decent as this without leaving their details at some lend-lease agency? Surely they'd need to provide ID for this, so wouldn't that therefore leave them open to investigation?

It just seems to me this is a little far fetched, and i'd think in reality the 'front' wouldnt look anywhere near as clean (in which case, you probably deserve to lose your PC for getting suckered so easily!). Unless ofcoarse there aren't any great checks made on potential renters?

I suppose the point is to make you open your eyes, yes... but you can certainly understand how these people were convinced so easily here.

This is a stupid idea, near the end they say they got 8000$ worth of laptops.. well, Firstly noone pays 2000$ for an obviously stolen laptop. Secondly, how much did they spend "earning" those 8000$, first you need the store, which would mean renting it. How easily do you find that kind of shop up for 1-day rent?? lets say you know someone , but oh, wait, you need a fake ID to the person you are renting from..(I bet he wasnt at all suspicious about the whole "only one day"-deal) overall, lots of trouble to get the shop. And lets hope it looks decent, I've seen empty storefronts, and usually, they look like hell, everything torn down, half-painted walls etc. so it'll need a good makeover. Then to finish it up, you run off without a trace. at the and of the day, you might get 3000$ for the laptops. Hurray for all that trouble and money and time spent to dishonestly earn that much.

A simple bank robbery would involve less risks, and be much easier to execute.
