"Inappropriate" Ad. Should Even Artful Nudity Be Banned?
Presumably nipples are banned in the interest of "protecting" children. But most children experience their first nipple at the age of, I dunno, zero? I suppose it's actually adults who need to be protected from "sinful thoughts". Who are the brain police? Do you feel safer?

Full Debate: From CSpan
Good to see the whole thing posted here. However, I recommend watching it on the New York Times site, which also provides hyperlinks, a running transcript and fact checks in a side bar the whole time. A really good resource for people who want to dig a bit deeper behind the soundbites.

Huxley's LSD Death Trip
Touching.
I am not totally sure, but I think that was actually his first LSD experience (and obviously his last one). We don't really know how much he liked it. He did like mescaline though, and described his experiences with it in his book "Doors of Perception", from which Jim Morrison's band took its name. Also, that's 200 *micro* grams (μg)--"mikes" in the old lingo--not milligrams (mg), which is 1000x as much and would _really_ be something.

Dupe, sorry :-(

Very interesting doc though--good choice.

If that guy is the "norm", then I'm definately fucked. (By which I mean *never again fucked*).

Isn't it also Flea (of Red Hot Chili Peppers) that we see here in a cameo as the hippie in the men's room?

I wonder what that conga player is up to these days. He's got a real subtle sound going there.

Yeah, "enjoy" can be a relative term. I wasn't doing any serious research or anything--it just came to me. Literally. A friend forwarded the link in e-mail and I figured sifters might like it too.
To me, the sight of the pure desolation of the place illustrates what an empty argument it is--real, exaggerated or otherwise. I mean, it doesn't even matter if it's literally true--to me, anybody who presents that argument is beneath contempt and impossible to take seriously about anything. Except, yeah, F*ing VP candidate!</rant>
In reply to this comment by Octopussy:
Well, I cannot really say I enjoyed this. I mean, the mere thought of Palin possibly becoming the vp is more than any reasonably thinking person could take, isn't it? But I had been wondering (having access to maps, unlike Ms Palin and Miss Teen South Carolina) what she would actually be able to see "from her home", but was too lazy to dig into it. So, thanks for doing my research for me. Are you from Alaska or did you just happen to come across this vid or did you seriously do some research?

NP. Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks for posting this. I know it doesn't really matter, but I had been wondering what/how much/from where one would actually have a view of Russia from Alaska (realising one couldn't possibly see it from either Wasilla, Juneau or Anchorage).

Bowie live-SNL-Boys Keep Swinging
I distinctly remember seeing this live on TV (back when SNL really was live). It was the very first time I'd stayed up late enough to see the show, after hearing so much about it on the playground.
