Kirk Cameron & Ray Comfort on 'Nothing Created Everything'

sawtooth says...

Of course, they don't state what their position is. They happily posit that the universe can't always have exited when they claim that god has always existed. The only reason they "know" that god has to always exist is because the minute you need something to "create" your god he is then either not as powerful as the creator or had to somehow evolve to get that way. I somehow don't see them arguing for the second option anytime soon.

To me there is nothing more inspiring than thinking about the fact that we are bits of the universe that are smart enough to go around pondering the universe itself.

As far as the universal "law creator" that created the rules of the universe argument? Well, the universe seems doomed to an eventual death. I would like to think that an all powerful and supposedly perfect being could have designed something a little bit better.

Wood Chopper From Hell

Being able to reduce costs and produce cheap wood products from tree farms is likely the best way to save existing diverse forests. It's clear to see in the video that the machine is working in a tree farm.

Instruction Manual For Life

>> ^Winstonfield_Pennypacker:
This video says just let everyone be for god's sake.
No - this video says, "My parents, Sanjay, and pretty much everyone but ME is a stupid, intolerant jackass. And also I am a genius because I was able to build a definitive shelf from the manual that no one else could. Oh - and I'm going to pretend I'm the only understanding person I ever met that says we should be OK with all shelves." It is a pandering, arrogant little video that says very little except how petty and self-aggrandizing the person who made it is. Then it tries to slap a little lipstick on the pig by doing what most intolerant people do and sugar-coat the bias by giving a cute little message at the end.
Know what? How about the author dumps the pettiness, the bias, and the self-aggrandizement altogether? What does it add to the message? Nothing. Jack-diddly-squat. You can chop out the first 7:30 seconds of this vid and just go with the last 30 seconds and get everything of value. The entire first 7:30 is arrogant, self-congratulatory garbage that takes a semi-decent message and craps all over it with a mountain of the author's blatant anti-parent's religion baggage.

The point was showing that different people were picking and choosing the parts of the manual they wanted because they liked the way it went together. The real shelf couldn't support its own weight (without the manuals to hold it up) and even had the letters to spell out "All Bulls**t" if you cared to look.

Overall, I think it was a pretty well made video.

Minnesota politics gets goofy

sawtooth says...

Yeah, I was rather amazed that simply writing in a name counts as a vote for that person even if you didn't fill in the oval. I mean, the other pre-printed names don't get votes unless you fill the oval so why is a write in name any different in that regard?

What if you were going to vote for a write in but changed your mind but figured you were O.K because you never filled in the oval? I guess the lesson here is not to play around if you want to be sure your vote really counts.

Cluster Bomb vs Cement Mixer

sawtooth says...

I don't think these devices should be used either. When you drop a single bomb there is a chance it might not explode. When you drop a bomb with hundreds of little bombs in it there is a larger chance that you'll have something left over. Anyone that is not worried about this clearly doesn't ever worry or think about people that have no choice but to try to make a living in a war zone. Leaving behind millions of bomblets isn't a good way make civilians happy after you leave and try to rebuild relations in the future.
