John McCain interviewed by Jon Stewart

Stewart et al. are great when it comes to addressing issues and bringing them to light with all of their absurdity but they hardly scratch the surface. I wouldnt mind if they cut the show down to one hour a week like Mahr but they actually did some research and debated the issues rather than just making parodies of them, cable news channels already got that in the bag.

I couldnt believe what i was hearing when i was watching this last night. It was funny at the end when McCain tried to run away, he probably thought he was going to get jumped by the audience.

More Guns Less Violence? Come On are they serious?

krumzy says...

If every man has a gun in his glove box, chances are he is going to use it. Im not against guns, as far as im concerned the Kalashnikov belongs in a museum right next to any other piece of history, but there is no reason for the common man to carry a gun in a civilized society. The original reason for the right to bare arms was to overthrow a government that gains too much power. Seeing as today the majority decides how the state should be run (at least in theory) there really is no need for guns, and seeing that if they were to be used to overthrow a tyrannical government (and most likely install another tyranny) the last four years have given plenty of opportunity to do so.

I can't really understand how people can support allowing anyone to own a gun (maybe it has something to do with the gun-phallic symbol connection). I play airsoft and understand the thrill of firing a gun, but the issue of safety for the community really outweighs everything else. Even with the strictest regulations the people who shouldnt have a gun ( and there are alot of them out there) can get ahold of a gun, and that risk outweighs the rights on the individual. Plain and simple.

Choggs, listen man,
No one reads your posts, you shouldn't waste your efforts here. It only takes reading a few of your posts to realize that you aren't much more than an attention grabbing charlatan, and soon after most people just stop caring about what you have to say. If people on the internet dont even like you then you must BE a huge dick.
For someone who cries about how the masses are (and im paraphrasing here) too distracted with ignorance and self gratification to realize what needs to be done to save humanity from being the star character in a snuff film, you sure do spend a good deal of time 'yelling at the wall' with your posts. May I suggest actually getting off your ass (assuming you can do so under your own power) and acting on some of your convictions. Otherwise you may actually want to direct your nonsensical rants to the wall, and do us all a favour.

Add Veoh to Video Hosts (Sift Talk Post)

Bummer.

Too bad about that. Aside from the 5 minute preview thing on anything longer than an hour, its not all that bad of a site. They do have some good users that post vids that I cant find anywhere else. But since I'm new to the sift, in the interest of not shit disturbing, I will have to take your word on this one.

Richard Dawkins: An atheist's call to arms

krumzy says...

This is one of those times that I disagree with Dawkins. I admire what he does but I dont think atheism is one of those things that anyone can just accept. Besides, it seems kind of wrong to go out and recruit atheists. Without some scientific or philosophical backing to it atheism doesnt sound as attractive to the average person as supernatural belief. Most people in this world are stupid and are not possible of understanding even some of the basic scientific explanations for how our world works. This leaves them only to accept blind faith, usually the common beliefs of their own community.
People could always be raised as atheists but i think that could just create more problems than it would solve. The only thing to try for is a second Enlightenment.

Norman Mailer & Marshall McLuhan Debate, 1968

krumzy says...

Absolutely brilliant clip, I agree with you 100%. The electronic medium would be a great one if it had more intelligent discussions like this. Instead of promoting intelligent autonomous thought it appeals to the most primal urges in 10 second clips so it doesn't loose the attention of the average viewer. The only place to find things even close to this is on public television and that is a shame.

Thanks alot for this one fedquip, its surprising to see how accurate they could have been on the evolution of technology / de-evolution of man so many years ago.
