How dummies protect marriage

Bush lawyer dismantles Fox argument against gay equality

kagenin says...

>> ^quantumushroom:

Same-sex "marriage" remains part and parcel of the "making shit up" argument. It's something that did not exist until very recently, and has never existed in any religion or society except in extremely limited instances with zero far-reaching consequences. ...

WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG.

Native Americans practiced same-sex coupling. Thousands of years even before that, there's evidence of humans pairing off for mutual protection and cooperation - two prehistoric dudes have a better chance of taking down large game than if they worked alone. Two female cave girls have a better chance of surviving and avoiding being raped by cave dudes than if they were separate.

Same-sex coupling has existed as long as humans have. Hell, even modern day penguins are known to engage in same-sex coupling.

Before people cite the Book of Matthew, let me remind them that "Man shall not lay with another man..." doesn't refer to homosexuality. There wasn't even a word for it when the bible was authored. The line references how we are not to treat men the same way we treat women. And just how were women treated during the days of the bible's authoring? Like cattle - merely objects to be bought, sold, and bartered for. The line speaks that we should not enslave men the way we enslave women. The line speaks to institutionalized misogyny, and has NOTHING to do with homosexuality.

The first amendment guarantees us freedom of religion. It also guarantees us freedom FROM religion. Every law needs a secular reason for existing. "God says it's wrong" isn't, nor will ever be, reason enough for a law. The 14th amendment guarantees equal rights and freedoms, even to people you don't like.

The Judicial branch did it's job - protecting the people from themselves. Just because the majority voted for something doesn't mean jack shit. If it's unconstitutional, it won't fly, no matter how big the majority.

And why is it "Small-Government" types always try to use the government to enforce their religious views? Seems HYPOCRITICAL to me.

SWAT A-Holes Murder Pets In Front Of Kids

kagenin says...

>> ^Hive13:

While I imagine there is more to this story that a misdemeanor marijuana charge, it is still pretty fucking sad, especially to do this in front of his kid.
That being said, I know several cops that have been badly injured serving warrants to people that owned Pit Bulls. They can be, but rarely are, mean, viscous killers. Seems like this cops didn't take a few extra moments to figure out which type of personality this dog had.

It really shouldn't have mattered what kind of personality the dog had.

IT WAS IN A FUCKING CAGE.

Seriously. How ball-less does someone have to be to shoot a caged dog?

Doctor Refuses to Treat Obama Voters

kagenin says...

Last month, my dog woke up abruptly, and confused my lower lip for a chew toy. I needed 12 stitches.

The ER doctors asked if I had any allergies, then Rx'd me an antibiotic I was allergic to. Thankfully, I asked my pharmacist some questions that might have saved my life. The dose they gave me at the ER caused me to itch violently (especially around my lymph nodes).

And I get to pay over a grand for the so-called "best medical care in the world." What a fucking joke.

This doctor is an asshole. Isn't this what the Republicans were threatening would happen? Except they thought that Obama supporters would be withholding care from registered Republicans...

Fucking stupid. You'd have to be to vote Republican or believe the lies that Fox spews.

Gimp "Content-Aware Fill" aka Resynthesizer

kagenin says...

How much is Photoshop going for nowadays? With the money you save on using the GIMP, you could invest in faster hardware (an SSD drive would improve performance to the point where the speed differences between PS and the GIMP are barely noticeable). I'd rather keep the money for myself, rather than line Adobe's pockets. Besides, Adobe needs to get off their ass, and give Opera the code they need to update the Wii Internet browser's Flash plug-in. v7 is practically archaic, and only a handful of sites use backup applets for the older flash versions out there.

Besides, the GIMP is open source. If you want a better Content-Aware fill, write your own.

CNN Visits Dog & Cat Meat Market in China

kagenin says...

If society collapses, or I'm in a situation where I can't just simply go to the market for fresh beef, then I know how to build squirrel traps - animals taste like what they eat, so naturally a squirrel is going to taste a little nutty . Besides, squirrel pelts make for good furry leather. Are they cute? Yeah, the grey squirrels around here are kinda, with their big bushy tails. And if worse comes to worse, the apocalypse, the sky falls, whatever, I'm not gonna have any qualms about dispatching a cute little bugger if it means I get to live off the protein for a while.

Personally, I think a dog is more useful as a tool to make hunting more efficient, but I'm not gonna stop someone across the world from using it as a much more readily available source of meat. That would make me a hypocrite. People will do what they need to survive. Just because you don't eat a particular kind of animal, doesn't mean you should stop all people from eating that animal.

Hell, a dog just bit me last week, I needed twelve stitches. I love dogs, don't get me wrong. But in the wild, we'd be food to them - see Dingos, Wolves, Hyenas, etc...

I draw the line at cetaceans. There's no necessity behind whale and dolphin hunting. People should work on catching dumber, more sustainable prey. For thousands (if not millions) of people around the world, dog will fit that description, and it's readily available.

Jon Stewart Does 13 Minutes Of Glenn Beck

kagenin says...

>> ^blankfist:
Damn impressive. OF course I wish Beck would stop associating himself with libertarians. His stance on immigration and war make him a neocon.

QFT, Blanky. Fox News has been using that as essentially a bait and switch tactic. It's getting to the point where what it means to be a libertarian is becoming more and more diluted.

Karl Rove: I Wrote A WHOLE Chapter About Iraq War

TYT: Alan Grayson Introduces Public Option Act

kagenin says...

The GOP will always talk shit about Medicare, spew lies and misinformation, etc.

There are some facts they can't avoid, though.

Most insurance companies take 30% of what's paid to them, and that goes directly to executive pay, shareholder dividends, and other things that have nothing to do with health care, and everything to do with greed.

Medicare only operates with a 1% overhead. For every dollar spent, only a penny goes towards paying the paper-pusher's salaries.

Of course the Insurance industry is scared shitless of universal medicare coverage. They might actually have to compete with something, and competition means thinner profit margins.

Of course, they don't deserve profit margins in the first place. Capitalism and Medicine never make for a good combination for the same reasons that Communism doesn't work - the unchecked greed of those at the top of the pile.

Screaming Salvia Girl

kagenin says...

>> ^rottenseed:
Have you ever done salvia? As a, once avid, consumer of drugs I'd have to say that Salvia is one of the strongest highs I have ever experienced. Like it rips your consciousness away from your ego with ease. You don't get any adjustment time...you're just separated from what you thought you knew about the universe. She doesn't do anything wrong. She just got fucked up. That's what happens to everybody that takes it (assuming its 10X or stronger). It's one of those drugs you don't want to do often and every time one of my friends or myself have done that drug, it has put us in a place beyond our control, no matter our experience level. It is the great equalizer.>> ^westy:
Morons
, looks like she probably has not done it much before.
its people like this that get drugs band , the same people that go out and get uterly waisted on drink, the only difrence is that the government or big companies will never make a huge amount of money out of salvea so it will get band off the bat.
she will end up blaming the drug rather than the fact she didn't bother researching what it dose ,, how much to take and what to expect.

I cannot agree more with what the seedy one said.

It gave me my most wild, vivid psychedelic experience I've ever had (thankfully, it was the most short-lived in realtime, although my conception of time was dramatically altered - those 5 minutes felt like an eternity). It's also given me the weakest (just a lightheaded feeling). It can be inconsistent, even 10x potency. Diviner's Sage can show you some pretty wild things... but only if it wants to.

I'm not going to watch or upvote, because honestly, video cameras should be consciously left out of the psychedelic experience. How they thought this would be a good idea is beyond me. I hope that this haunts them for the rest of their lives in job interviews.
