URLs That Work, But Probably Shouldn't (Sift Talk Post)

jonny says...

But now videos and talk posts cannot be opened in a channel to which they do not belong. Instead it will forward you to the equivalent page on the main site.

Seems like that's what it should do. If I go to a specific channel, I'd expect to see only things associated with that channel. But, yeah, it is a double-edged sword. If I'm submitting a video and do a search for dupes first, I'll only get videos from the channel I'm currently in. That's exactly how I found the holocaust URL - searched 'holocaust' from within the Truthiness channel.

The Great Global Warming Swindle - full version

Imagoamin says...

Truthiness run rampant.. I'd like to say I can't believe people are dumb enough to buy into this whole fake science of the absence of global warming, but people are just that gullible. It's all BS. I mean, look at this: http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2007/feb/02/frontpagenews.climatechange

Maybe I'm "mistaken" but I thought scientific studies were supposed to be objective, not whoever can buy the result. This kind of thing has been happening since the global warming issues were being discussed..and people are gullible, and possibly stupid enough, to fall for it. Wake. The. Fuck. Up.

Jesus.

Edit: Some more. http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2007/jul/05/climatechange.climatechange Direct refutation of this movies "theory".
http://www.guardian.co.uk/comment/story/0,,2053234,00.html More evidence of the bias effecting science.

Heritage Foundation: "How Modern Liberals Think"

joedirt says...

LOL!! Please put this in the Truthiness Collective..

Excerpt from above:

The modern liberal will invariably side with evil over good, wrong over right, and the behaviors that lead to failure over those that lead to success. Give the modern liberal the choice between Saddam Hussein and the United States, he will not only side with Saddam Hussein, he will slander America and Americans in order to do so. Given the choice between the vicious, mass-murdering, corrupt terrorist dictator Yasser Arafat, and the tiny and wonderful democracy of Israel, he will plagiarize maps, forge documents, engage in blood libels, as did our former President, Jimmy Carter, to side with a terrorist organization, and to attack the tiny state.
First of all Saddam is about American as any foreign ruler gets. Trained, supported, funded, armed, put into power by.... ???

Secondly, Israel is "tiny and wonderful". You know everything has two sides of a story. I'm sure a few Palestinians have a different view on Israel and their human rights abuses, but hey, they must be sub-human so they don't count. They are not one our side, so children in Iraq or Gaza really don't matter. Helpless Iraqi children living in depleted uranium soil and millions of rounds containing lead and other heavy metals, but who really cares, cause you are "helping" them and their country, right? You know what is best. To not continue helping them would be "bad".

Truth, beauty, honesty... that's his principals. So the Heritage Folks are pro-war, pro-unitary executive. They are pro-torture. They believe in Bush's policies.

QM:

Please tell me which of these fall into which category (good or evil) and then ask yourself if this is a 'liberal' ideal or conservative ideal (At least the modern conservative that approves of Bush's reaches of power).

- [torture (MCA)] or [Geneva Convention]
- [domestic spying] or [FISA and following existing laws]
- [secret military tribunals] or [habeas corpus]
- [unjustified war for oil] or [balanced budget, money for education, health care, economy, or tax cuts]

Ask yourself WHO IS THE ONE THAT IS INDOCTRINATED? Someone that is a critical thinker and believes (based on facts and evidence) that the US invaded Iraq primarily in the name of oil or at least indefinite control of the region to ensure future access to oil. Or someone that believes anything about "bringing democracy to Iraqis". Who is the one eliminating rational thought?

Is Democracy worth bringing to people if they have to live as refuges, kicked out of their ancestral homes, living with 1 hour of electricity, no water, and constant killings and bombings in their formerly peaceful village. What did we bring to Iraqis? Can you honestly really believe it is all their fault? Are the Iraqis so sub-human in your mind that you cannot imagine all humans are pretty close to similar and their lives or probably of equal value.

Sayer: There is no standard to them, because a standard would require them to say that something is better than something else, which goes against this entire philosophy.
I'm sorry that you need to believe that you are better than others. That your ideas are superior and need to be imposed on other by gov't. That your religion is the correct one. That your nation is always correct and proper and the good guys. And everything is us vs. them. And you "know" which is better and right. You are correct that I'm not as naive and such a small thinker as you are. This guy really is your ideological hero.

You must be a simple troll to not respond to any questions posed to you. Also, instead of refuting the economic claim cited by someone from a reputable peer-reviewed journal, you just babble on from your own limited knowledge in a lame attempt to dismiss facts with your own version of truthiness. Why not cite your references into how poor California and Texas are being bankrupted by illegals, who pay taxes from sales tax, DMV fees, property tax, and thanks to Bush and the US Chamber of Commerce, most pay income taxes. (You do know the govt withholds income tax, and if you don't file... like illegals probably don't, they keep it all)

It is a fact that Social Security is being added to by legal and illegal aliens and foreign students who pay into the system and never collect from it.

(BTW, the Border Patrol has unprecidented authority and power thanks to the Patriot Act. Don't you think the formation of a new DHS with unprecedented funding and a tripling of the Border Patrol would be the opposite of what you say. The Border Patrol is welcome to do their job and fight illegal border crossing, no one is against that. Everyone wants a secure border.. everyone but Bush and his corporate friends... and people like you that use it as a rasicist boogeyman)

"WAKE UP AMERICA" must be your code for "WAKE UP WHITE PEOPLE"

Anyways, I pegged you as a Moran and I will edit the VideoSiftopedia to reference Moran to mean an "orwellian troll who uses their hatred of 'others' and Constitutional Rights to defend their position and attack critics"

QM! Finally a breathe of fresh air. At least he sticks to the wingnut talking points. He also makes his points so blatant, everyone realize there is no hope or humanity left in him, so why try and talk reason. At least QM makes his points well and I can at least respect his position.

Now BGW keeps blathering on without defending his hatred of the Constitution. I'm sorry, what part of "their criminal wrongdoing" and "illegal" and "criminal" didn't imply you were talking about Mexicans. See I read and can even remember all of your vile spew.

if they had open boundaries and just let anybody in.... these desperate people... You should let anyone in your own home who wants to be there-you know--thiefs, murderers, criminals, lawless people in general... No screening process.
Seems like you are implying Mexicans will come across the border and break into your house. So, yeah, you kinda DID say that. I'm just repeating your provocative crap.

You honestly believe cops should go around Union-busting immigrant rallies. (It's a historical term.. look it up, I'm not implying anything to do with unions, but rather public servant behavior)

Do you believe in the Bill of Rights? (yes/no)
Do you believe in the First Amendment? (yes/no)
Do you know what the First Amendment says? (no/no)
Do you believe the US gov't should torture people? (yes/no/Enhanced Interrogation Techniques)
Do you believe cops should shoot women & children with rubber bullets? (yes/no)
Do you believe illegals should be rounded up and put in Halliburton detention centers?
Do you know what happens to a fascist regime after it starts rounding up people and putting them in detention centers?

(Are you purposefully pretending you can't click the Morans link.. I know it is internets 101 to include links to explain things. You're more of a truthiness kind of guy. Don't need no stinkin' hyperlinks))

9/11 Mysteries-Fine Art of Structural Demolitions

rickegee says...

I completely agree with your call for an independent evaluation (perhaps even performed by non-Americans) into the questions that remain. I have always found the 'healing', hold hands, and don't point fingers approach of the 9/11 Commission to be undernourished at best. But I find the NIST volumes on North and South Towers and the links posted by bamdrew in the other recent post (http://history.videosift.com/video/911-News-Footage-The-Ultimate-Con-trailer)to be as compelling as the scientific and physical evidence in support of global warming. And I would hazard that many Truthies often believe more in the dream of fraud than the cold scientific facts that stare back at them in some of the reports. The Inhofe approach.

NIST is now completing a study on WTC7. It will be interesting to read that report. I imagine that it will create as many questions as it answers.

I believe that you have to introduce analysis of this catastrophe from a position of good faith or at least from more distance. It may be that more distance and time is required in order to avoid what has really become a highly partisan and CYA activity on all levels. The debunking 9/11 site is just as guilty as Alex Jones in playing the game, although I don't know if they have radio shows, books, and content deals to support.

9/11: The Conspiracy Files

rickegee says...

Politics has always been about the consolidation of power. I don't believe that it is a historical trend/mistake that we are doomed to repeat; rather, it is just embedded in the DNA of human existence.

I don't think that the BBC chose the most lunatic of the fringe here. All of these men have been making the public relations rounds and likely contacted BBC to advance their viewpoint (no doubt thinking that they would have a more sympathetic source than FauxNews . . .hah suckers)

When you are outside of the mainstream in law or public policy, you must strive put your best case forward and downplay any lunatic fringe that may be attached to your cause. Unfortunately for the 9/11 truth movement, the lunatic fringe is the public face of the movement. It happens.

My objection on a politcal level to providing any sort of traction to 9/11 Truthies is that they are such a wanky, scattered, superfluous movement. They don't confront real and actual structural evils either within this current Administration or within the current relationship between the West and radical or moderate Islam. "Bush Lied, People Died" or "Israel Brought Down the Towers" is more of an obstinate and evasive tactic to confronting these problems. It is the 21st Century version of the Know Nothing Party.
