Penn & Teller - The Bible Myth

theo47 says...

Actually, rickegee's last paragraph was very poorly said.

Religion and science try to cover some of the same ground occasionally, but let's not pretend they're equal or interchangeable concepts.

I respect the attempt to get everyone to hold hands and sing "Kumbaya", but science is about truth (or, at least, the pursuit of it) and faith is about truthiness.

SnakePlissken:

You are taking truthiness to a new level. I can only say fact number 1 is true, but you'd be hardpressed to find many people who could say your other points are facts, with perhaps the exception of point 4.

Now, how to explain how fast the towers collapsed? I can't, but that I can't doesn't mean that the building was demolished. I'm not an architect, nor a physist, and I don't have the means to make such an assessment, and I suspect neither do you. I can only look to experts on this, and as far as I know there is no consensus.

Certainly there are experts who have said what you are implying, but conspiracy theorists are specifically looking for such experts. You already have a conclusion, and are now looking for evidence based on that conclusion. Doing this, you can find 'proof' of nearly anything you want. I'll take this sort of evidence more seriously when an indepenent group of scientists can come to similar conclusions.

In terms of WTC7, I don't know any of the details on that. I do remember on 9/11 while watching the news, there was mention that one of those smaller buildings was purposely demolished. I don't know what the current story people are saying about this now, nor if the news got it wrong it the time. If I remember correctly the other building collapsed after at least one of the main towers went down, perhaps both, and was hit by lot of debris.

shroomer:
you write "isn't this the liberal dream?"
answer: NO

But I'm glad that even you can see the problems of a "government that controls every aspect of peoples' lives," and that you can see "it might actually happen"... and it seems even you know this is not a good thing.
but be clear on one point: this is not happening under the liberals, who are powerless in congress. it's happening during the watch of one George W. Bush and his party. So, again, the answer to your question is NO. This entire catastrophic situation was created by your neocon idols.
Why would you ever think this is a liberal goal? Ahh, it just felt right? Hopefully even you know your truthiness is utter worthless bullshit. Please stop lying. I'm sure it's a difficult habit to break, but this is an emergency. Try.

I partly agree with angelsvn. Partly. There is that weird news stuff, and also that background music is NOT in the original version. (It's Peter Gabriel's soundtrack for the Last Temptation of Christ)

I have been working on attaining a better copy, and I hope James or dag will indulge me in replacing this current unclean copy with a more pristine clip. My purpose in posting was only about the original content, not these other confounding layers.

Golly gee, angelsvn. While I did not create this clip, as a liberal, I hope you will let me know if my liberal stupidity leads to unendurable hypocrisy. Glad to be in the company of someone who can see things so much more clearly.

Sorry if this comes off as harsh, but I contend the comments about Fox News is valid. Among the newscasts, Fox news specifically stands out for its truthiness. The clip must have been from something else, I agree. I just bristle when I read an attempt to dismiss the point about Fox as "stupid liberal propaganda" -- when Fox was only a tangential point to the original posting. And seeing you speculate this unknown source is "propaganda" while you defend Fox News as being equal in sin to the other news sources... it just triggered a bit of verbal nausea.

I agree skepticism is required when getting one's news. I do not agree all sources are equal.
