R.I.P. Michael Crichton 1942 - 2008 (Books Talk Post)

MUST SEE Richard Dawkins Interview

Baby Pictures (History Talk Post)

jonny says...

My first post didn't make it until saved months later (thanks sg!). My first sifted video was a TDS clip of the guy that gave his Purple Heart to Bush. I really wanted to get rid of that 'P' quickly and TDS was even more popular then than it is now. Sadly it was yanked never to return. In any case, I immediately posted three others that seemed likely to sift -

Dave Chapelle on Charlie Rose
The Adverb Song
A news story about stoners in Canada

What do those say about me? I like to burn the herb while watching longer, interesting videos, and I'm really just a kid at heart - chronology notwithstanding. KidSift was the first collective I joined. (Whatever happend to James??)

MUST SEE Richard Dawkins Interview

Ayn Rand's chilling 1959 interview on 21st century ills

Thomas Friedman on Real Time

volumptuous says...

Friedman's a weird bird.

He goes from an incredibly thoughtful person when talking about climate change or economics, but then he also can be one of the biggest assholes on the planet, as in the runup to the invasion of Iraq.

The blogosphere has been measuring 6-month periods of the US occupying Iraq as a "Friedman unit", due to him telling us every six months or so, that we're going to only need another six months in Iraq to "turn it around" etc.

And his worst quote must be the infamous "suck on this".

In an interview with Charlie Rose in 2003, Friedman said:

"What they needed to see was American boys and girls going house to house, from Basra to Baghdad, um and basically saying, "Which part of this sentence don't you understand?" You don't think, you know, we care about our open society, you think this bubble fantasy, we're just gonna to let it grow? Well, Suck. On. This."

"'Charlie Rose' by Samuel Beckett"

File-sharing debate between Metallica & Public Enemy members

doogle says...

@ 17m30s:

Charlie Rose:"you think this principle is so important that if there are some fans that can be alienated because you are out front leading the fight, you are saying-"

Lars Ulrich: (Bye Bye motion)

CR: so 'goodbye we have enough fans we can spare a few-'

LU: Bye bye - If you don't have enough respect for the fact that I believe this way and that I have a right to challenge it and try to right it for what's right for me, I don't want you as a fan.

And the fans reacted.

Bill Gates can't make a million this fast

"I dislike The Price is Right on so many levels. It's inane marketing propaganda masquerading as entertainment. . .Do yourself a favor and watch a show with real content instead of this content-free garbage. Perhaps TNG, DS9, TDS/Colbert, Frontline, Nova, Charlie Rose, etc."

In my more stodgy moods, I agree with all of this. But mostly I'm just happy for this lady.

I dislike The Price is Right on so many levels. It's inane marketing propaganda masquerading as entertainment. The subject matter of the show is repetitive, useless, boring, and deceptive. It's almost as braindead as Deal Or No Deal. The sole redeeming quality of both shows is the comedy of watching the spastic effusive guests lose their composure.

Do yourself a favor and watch a show with real content instead of this content-free garbage. Perhaps TNG, DS9, TDS/Colbert, Frontline, Nova, Charlie Rose, etc.
