Constitutional_Patriotsays...Yes, this is a nice post... I found another one here too that's a bit slower with some diameter & distance data:

swampgirlsays...I've seen this here before...maybe gone? Great one.
silvercordsays...You're right, SG it is *near *dupe. Here's the original, a bit shorter:

Also a nice one here:

Yes, but actually smaller planets would be more conducive to having very large life forms on land, because of the weaker gravitational pull. As you make larger and larger versions of a structure, its mass grows faster than its strength. If s is the scale than mass is O(s^3) and strength is very roughly O(s^2). This is one of the reasons why all sufficiently large planets are roughly spherical. This is why an ant can lift 20 times its own body weight but no known large creature can. This is why you can't build an arbitrarily long bridge without supports in the middle.
EatAjnasays...this video rocks. awesome music.
deathcowsays...so am I bigger, relative to a single blood cell inside me, than the milky way is to me?

Memoraresays...A google of galaxies over a googleplex of eons... and not one visitor? Odd. Maybe WE are now the "Elder Race" of the distant future. Or maybe not.
jwraysays...There could be a billion intelligent civilizations in the universe, with none of them less than 10,000 light years apart. If faster than light travel is impossible, it might take a very long time to get to our nearest neighbors, if we have neighbors.
HarryKAsays...thats just depressing
AnimalsForCrackerssays...In reference to how mind-bogglingly massive (in space-time) the universe is, I also liked this:
