Yogisays...People just lie to talk about how Free Markets work, and make our lives better. They're just liars, and they should be called out on it.
rougysays...A "nanny state for the rich." How true.
kymbossays...What will we do when he's gone?
gorillamansays...Forget everything he said and carry on as normal presumably.
What will we do when he's gone?
lantern53says...The free market is controlled by the gov't. This guy thinks we need more gov't to control the gov't that controls everything.
Also, I thought these academicians were all about 'nuance'. He makes blanket statements that feed into liberal paranoia and are specious to begin with.
If you want to curb the power of the military, just defund it by defunding gov't.
aaronfrsays...I did not hear him put forth a call for more government in this speech and I can not recall that he has ever done anything of the sort.
Perhaps you are confusing governance with government wherein the latter is what the government does and not the bodies and bureaus that form it. Chomsky often argues for better governance usually in the form of critiquing the bad governance we have now. He also critiques the structures and systems that create bad governance and readily admits that American democracy is dysfunctional. How a leap could be made from calling for good governance to calling for more government, I can not understand. Perhaps I'm just being too generous though, thinking that you can understand that distinction.
As for nuance:
somewhat... pretty good... I guess... almost... to a large extent... a kind of...a lot of... about... 'every single one'... exception... a lot of... exception... 'like everything else'... '100%'.... one of the major... usually... one major aspect... 'all'... expect it is uniform... 'gotta have'... roughly... 'anybody in sight'... one large part
Well... good to see there's no nuance in there. For reference, the parts in ' ' are statements I think are less nuanced, but of course, at least three of them were statements of fact, no opinion or analysis.
raviolisays...No, he doesn't think we need more government. In fact, he always proned "less government". He really doesn't care about labels and defends no agenda. He has a lot of to say about capitalism and US military policies. You might enjoy reading some of his books.

kymbossays...No, I meant we who can actually understand what he's saying.
