Enzobluesays...It's nothing like the other one. This one has balls and special fluids the other one didn't have and the other one had variable cams and other things. Totally different seems to me.
deathcowsays...I dunno about the "nothing like".... 1) its a compact planetary continuously variable transmission in a form factor for bicycles 2) it uses eccentric shaped objects which vary power transfer based on position 3) the positioning of the power transfer roller is governed by moving the objects from the exact same point... OK once they discussed fluid it was obviously a different mechanism for transfer, but I would call these objects more similiar than different.

arvanasays...I agree with Enzoblue -- completely different design. Still overly complex, but it's getting there.
Throbbinsays...I may be wrong, but I think these CVT's are already being used in cars. The Nissan Murano - or the "truck with an ass" as my wife puts it - uses a CVT transmission system.
