garmachisays...Kevin Smith should focus on public speaking. He's much better at that than he is at film making.
Trancecoachsays...In the great book about filmmaking, Breaking Through, Selling Out, Dropping Dead, author William Bayer writes about RUTHLESSNESS as being as critical a quality to be cultivated for success as a filmmaker as are the qualities of talent and vision...
Barsepssays...For Kevin Smith's "down to earthedness"......

westysays...really good advice , Pretty much everything he said applies to the games industry and I'm sure all creative industries.
The only thing I would like him to clarify is what he said about cutting things. I think the amount you have to cut or sacrifice your creative vision is directly related to the amount of time and budget you have , But sure as a general rule cutting everything but the best and keeping the film as tight as possible makes sense , there are very few directors that manage to make long films and keep them engaging throughout.
LukinStonesays...I like all Smith's movies, except Cop Out. I get sick of the people who feel they have to put the guy down. There are plenty of movies that cost millions of dollars that are crap, at least you can feel the passion he puts in his films. It's refreshing, for me, to listen to the verbose dialog. I think it's funny, unique and interesting. Yes, even Jersey Girl.

Boy, you said a fuckin' mouthful. I'm listening to Kevin Smith speak about audiences walking away from the theater with intangible experience and about telling the story and I'm like, "He's talking about another director, right?"
