Jon Stewart returned from break tonight and had a lengthy chat with Rand Paul about all things NSA-related. Paul joked with Stewart a bit about his nearly-11-hour filibuster and may have made a joking reference to his genitalia before Stewart dug into the meat of the conversation.
“Your party is known for wanting to defend the people of America from government overreach to protect liberty,” Stewart said. “But when it comes to government surveillance, when it comes to the security state, they seem very willing to allow the government… to get whatever they want.”
Paul agreed that the mantra for many Republicans is “we don’t like big government until we do like big government.” He said his colleagues are “using scare tactics” and it’s a big “disservice” to the men and women fighting to defend America’s freedoms to not want to take this issue more seriously.
But in the second segment, Stewart pressed Paul about religious freedom and the “idea of religious persecution” being pushed by some on the right. Paul told Stewart the First Amendment is “about the right to be despicable” and freedom means not trying to force your opinion on others.
Stewart wasn’t really buying that argument, bringing up the example of the Christian bakers who won’t make gay wedding cakes, asking, “Don’t they sell cakes to sinners all the time?

I'm gonna miss Jons interviews of politicians.
MordhausI dunno, I think Paul walked away with this one. Even Jon was like "what is this voodoo?"
