Zero Punctuation Review - Silent Hill Homecoming

This week Yahtzee's ass remains safe while he reviews Silent Hill Homecoming.
Kevlarsays...

Sadly, he's dead on as usual about the game. Silent Hill 2 is one of my favorite games and while the graphics, the controls and the general interactivity and flow of the gameplay have all gotten much better, all of the creepy, awkward and occasionally terrifying content seems to have gone right out.

Also, can anyone help me find one of the three symbols I need to unlock my front door?

I threw Silent Hill 2 in my old PS2 a few weeks back, and found myself cursing vehemently at it.

The camera controls suck (something Yahtzee complains about frequently in newer games), combat is difficult and anemic (how hard is it to aim a fucking club at the nearest enemy?), and the game's pace builds at a snail's crawl.

I can't understand why Yahtzee holds it in such high regard when there's so many things in it that he complains about in other games. About 2 hours in, I cursed my decision to dust off the case. It could be that the game is just that dated now, that I'm so jaded by newer games that do things better, or it could be that it really is awful, and Yahtzee picked this game at random as a "favorite" just to make it seem like he doesn't hate every other game except Portal (which, I will agree, was a sublime gaming experience).

I'd love to see Silent Hill 1 and 2 remade on next gen systems, like Nintendo did for Resident Evil. Fix the controls, improve the graphics, ad a bit more difficulty and throw in a bunch of twists to keep fans of the original guessing.

If you are jonesing for a scary game, pick up Dead Space, it's brilliant and scarier than any other game I've ever played.

Anyone else notice how he seemed to talk at a relatively normal speed in this video? I remember when I had to watch his videos 2 or 3 times just to catch everything he was saying. It was part of the fun...
