White phosphorus mortar shell misfires

Fuze wasn't armed. Everyone's fine, just a bit... stinky.

Had a similar experience. We were firing a 160mm mortar and one shell made a weird thump noise when fired... We saw it land at about 10 meters away. I remember someone making a similar girly scream like the one on the vid :-)

Shouldn't this be in the "Weapons of Mass Destruction" channel? I'm pretty sure they're firing those shells from an aluminum tube, after all...

Whoa. White phosphorus is no joke.
Burns through flesh, under water, leaves terrible, terrible burns.
Ugly and deforming injuries.

I'd scream like a little girl too.

The ostensible use, for all armies, is smoke generation for obscuring a target/concealing your own troops from folks not using advanced technology to look through your screen.

But.
The WP's antipersonnel capability is always there too.
