Holocaust survivor and Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel briefly explains that we're screwed, because no matter how many wars, famines, and genocides that occur, we still go on hating and killing each other. He's right. The past is our future. Have a nice day.

Hes not right.
Wars still happen, wow big shock there.
Take a look at the casualty of war figures from WW1, compare them to WW2, and Korea, and Vietnam, and Kosovo, and Panama, and both gulf wars.

Youll see the numbers are going down significantly, and we are still outraged by the deathcount.

If anything we are slowly making our way towards a world without wars, or at least one where humans arnt on the front lines.

On the other hand, see the demonization of Islam in America and Europe, as well as the rise of anti-semitism and the extreme right in Europe. Those are hardly calming events-in-progress.

You'll also see that there was a time of peace between the two world wars. Countries need time to breed new youngsters to send to war, and they need time to fill said youngsters with old hatred, give it time to fester and evolve into something stronger.

I'd like to think that the days of war are behind us, charliem, but I don't think so. I'm not a Christian nor do I believe in Armageddon, but I have a gut feeling that the world is going to have another BIG war.

Racism? Still here. Anti-Semitism? Still here. Genocide? Still here. Starvation? Still here. I think Mr. Wiesel is correct, unfortunately.

Charliem is right. Things have been getting better overall. We are nowhere near the end of violence but there is far less than in the past. There may be more this year than a few years ago but the trend towards communication and understanding is clear. it won't be a straight line, there will be many bumps, maybe even huge wars but the trend is away from violence.

Of course if we kill off the internet and easy travel between continents then that trend might reverse. Communication is the key to overcome our natural fear of the unknown. The internet is the start to peace on earth but communication over long distances require a huge effort to keep up so we could still screw it up.

We are social animals so if we don't completely kill off the human race then even with serious setbacks eventually there will be peace. 100% sure of that! It might take millions of years but I sure hope it happens sooner than that.
