There's a whole Metafilter thread discussing the Cebu Prison inmates performing "Thriller." This vid's info (& most the info available) seems to come from a single Vice Magazine article about Cebu. "Thriller" ain't the only number they've performed.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was true actually. Philippines is corrupt in a number of different ways. My parents are always telling me inhumane stories.

Well I was *hoping* the story behind the clip wasn't too unpleasant but we know what jails can be like. I think the orginal popularity of the clip is the desire to feel that maybe life isn't always treacherous and unpleasant in these places.

All I know is my sister just got a filipina nanny and I WOULD HIT IT.
