pho3n1xsays...depending on how well they react with snow/ice, i'll take 4 please.
benjeesays...I like the Michelin man un-veiling their research! Will be popular with car theifs too (defeats spike-strips!)
Farhad2000says...Don't worry Benjee, the police force has it's own industry developing gadgets, just the other week I read up on a system that is like the spike strip but instead of popping tires it just blows all the car electronics, and seeing as the market is totally dominated with cars running chips its highly effective.
thenebsays...The stinger traps police use are actually old tech, there is a better solution for stopping car's that the police can now use (but I forget the name)
Instead of putting spikes in the tyres, the new trap wraps completely around the wheels. Hence the car will defiantly stop instantly.
conansays...I´m happy that these sort of stuff (spike-strips etc.) is illegal in Germany, even and especially for police ;-)

winkler1says...Very cool! This was a while ago - here is the wikipedia entry. This video has some nice demos - nails, land mine, segway off a ramp.
Looks like this would be a lot lighter.. there is a noise issue @50 MPH, but it'd be fine for an NEV.
