The Today Show covers the Cash4Gold ripoff

A batch of gold jewellery worth about $400 is offered $73.85 by Cash4Gold - oh snap. Even pawn shops would pay three times as much.

It's shameful that people are being taken advantage of like this.

And it's kind of hilarious to see MC Hammer used as a pitchman.

You know, an upper middle class white lady would probably get a better (more honest) deal from jewelers and pawn shops. Did she shop around skid row, or upper manhattan?

Poorer, dumber, and less attractive people may not even get consideration at pawn shops and jewelry stores. Even with consideration they would probably get as good a deal as Cash4Gold. When I was poor and in college, I used pawnshops, and have witnessed that industry rip off many people. Those types of business people can smell blood in the water and would make appropriate lowball offers.

What's that saying again? "A fool and his money are soon parted."

I feel for victims of this - but IMHO they get what's coming to them. If you can't immediately see that Cash4Gold is a shady outfit, I think you have bigger problems that being ripped off for gold.

Is it supposed to surprise me that people aren't being offered what their gold is actually worth? And am I supposed to feel bad that "people are being taken advantage of like this"? Those people are responsible for doing their own research and for shopping around. If they only go to one place, they don't deserve any more or less than what that place offers.

Tough shit! Wipe your tears, get smart, and take responsibility for your own stupidity and/or laziness. The implication that this company is doing something wrong is moronic. If you don't want to give them your business, then don't give them your fucking business.

^ Agreed, if your afraid of the hood, there is always eBay.

The real problem is that most of the gold is probably stolen and the police are never able to recover any of it before its melted down.

I've been seeing these commercials for a long time and always figured it was a rip off, always wondered how much, turns out probably a lot. Problem is while the lady may have been able to find jewelers that were willing to offer here a much better deal that doesn't mean everyone else is in the same situation. Especially if they live in a smaller town, I've seen how those guys operate, and its basically a loot and pillage operation.
