An 1895 print of Edvard Munch's famous painting went under the hammer in New York on May 2nd 2012 & became the most expensive painting ever sold at auction.

Maybe not, but that's what Sothebys are there for, to authenticate it

Was the price paid for the love of the art, or for the future proof investment? I bet on investment, because to my eye, and I know it is subjective, it is something a 10 year old would produce.

Wasn't this recently stolen and recovered?

Most expensive painting ever? I just don't see it.

Plus, there are FOUR versions of this painting apparently. All by the artist, all from the same year... wouldn't you think that would hurt the value a bit? I mean, most if not all, other classic famous paintings are one of a kind, no?

By far the ugliest of the screams and fetches that sum of money, sigh. World is sick, art belongs to the people.
