The Real 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Footprint Fireworks

This is some footage of the real footprint fireworks that China used during the opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. It has been reported that these fireworks were fake. In reality, there were real fireworks (as shown in this video) for people to see live, but the reportedly fake fireworks were composed of some prerecorded and some CG for the television audience because the actual ones were not spectacular enough, according to the Beijing Olympic Organizing Committee. On television these footprint fireworks looked a lot more full and colorful than seen here.

i heard that the tv footprints were cg b/c it was too dangerous to get an overhead shot for any helicopter.

Sounds plausible and might make for a good excuse, but the committee said themselves (see the link in the summary above) it was poor visibility that prompted their tomfoolery.

Well CG is much more HD than the real world. Just mind the analog gap...
