JAPRsays...over 10 is *long
siftbotsays...This video has been flagged as being at least 10 minutes in length - declared long by JAPR.
Trancecoachsays...methinks Leno's compensating for his total lack of talent. Although that's a phenomenal vehicle he takes out at the end, I still somehow wonder how priorities are such that Leno keeps $millions of cars for himself, and starving African children don't even get one Ferrari for themselves!

That's what she said.
I'd consider the twin turbo Toyota Supra mark IV a Japanese supercar at least production-wise. The cool thing about the older Toyotas and Nissans are the potential they have for added horsepower. This dude that lived down the road from me a few years back with too much time and money on his hands (yes that's jealousy you detect) built a 1000hp supra. He had a couple others beefed up too.
But that was back when street racing and techno was cool. Now we've gotta conserve gas and listen to Phish.
HaricotVertsays...The GTR is "sloppy seconds" for Americans. The GTR has been out in Japan for years.
It's just known as a "Skyline" there.
coolhundsays...I agree on the Supra.
This one might have awesome specs, but, regretfully, its still BUTT-ugly.
Yes I could get emotional in that car too, but as soon as I got out of it I would have to barf every time I looked at it. Looks like a BMW or other sedan ripoff, and why would you do that anyway, they are ugly as shit already.
Im still waiting for a real sportscar to show up again. The Viper is pretty nice right now, but I dont like the lack of reliability. I'm used to Toyotas, sorry.
supersaiyan93says...too bad coolhund, because the Viper line is slated for for the chopping-block in 2011.
9261says...Yeah the 1993.5 - 1998 Toyota Supra MKIV was definitely the real "first" Japanese super car. It's a severely under rated vehicle. edit: The skylines were also very similar performance wise but not sold in the US market obviously.
Yes I own one.
My '97 put down 443 RWHP on a completely stock parts car save for an exhaust system. That translates into around 525HP as manufactures rate things (at the crank normally).
It now has an after market turbo on it and everything else is still stock. It lays down 505 RWHP currently. The stock fuel system is now at it's limits however. Still, not bad considering that it's making right at 600HP at the crank on essentially all stock stuff minus a turbo.
Anyway.. Just saying! Last generation Supras are nothing short of super car fast and on top of everything else... Dead reliable at the same time. I've owned this car for almost 10 years.
I do like the new GTR though. The in car toys are awfully nice and it's a wonderful base platform to start with. However at almost 4000lbs it's in serious need of a diet. The supra tips the scales at 3350 without driver (mine does anyway). Figure every 6 lbs of weight is roughly equal to 1hp needed to keep acceleration the same between two different weight vehicles. So that 480hp GTR at 39xx lbs would be able equal acceleration wise to a 380hp 33xx lb car.
Anyway...blah, I can ramble on about this stuff
