The Book That Can't Wait

A book publisher releases books with a two month reading life in order to get authors read. Once opened the ink fades as it is exposed to light and air.

This might be the single stupidest idea I have ever heard of. The entire point of books, of writing things down, is to preserve them. Preserve it for future days, future generations.

Too bad for you, Mr. Author, if no one happened to like your novel this month. It's gone, erased from every printed copy. Good luck with your next three years of work!

It strikes me as more of a marketing gimmick. The book featured is called The Book That Can't Wait and was given away for free.

If you buy a book, but don't read it the author still gets paid.
Fuck, this is stupid--but then people are stupid.

I would guess that the ultimate consequence of widely applying something like this is to cripple the used book industry - not good for independent book retailers at all.

This has to be the dumbest idea ever, what if I want to read the book again? I gotta go buy it a second or third time?

The best part about books is that you can take as long as you want to read them, and you can come back in 30 years and read it again!

(not to mention the extreme waste of paper)

I'd have to second Deano's comment. It's a marketing ploy. So it's hardly a waste. It's not an idea that anyone would use beyond the first few implementations or other crazy specialty items.

It might be nice if it comes with a micro SD card in a pocket in it's hard cover that has the entire book on it...
