Tested Tests Valve's Steam Controller

Norm from Tested tests out Valve's Steam Controller. His early take away is more or less the same as many other reviews of it.

From YT: Two years after it was announced, Valve's Steam Controller is finally out! But before you think about spending $50 on this PC gamepad for your living room, here's our early testing impressions. We tried the gamepad with first person shooters, third-person action games, and point-and-click adventure games. The haptic touchpads work as promised, but there's definitely a learning curve.

Interesting. Had considered getting one just to try it out, but more interested in the Steam Link though for just taking the PC power into other areas. Probably a good thing then you can't really get them in Australia...yet I assume.

still pretty beta, IMHO.

There's a day 0 patch (firmware update) for the controller, which you have to apply from the host PC before it can even pair with the Steam Link.

Steam link is very interesting to me.

I'm a PC gamer. I don't own any consoles and 99% of the time I'm perfectly happy with that (using a controller for an FPS is sick and wrong!).

But there are some games I would like to play from my couch with a controller (Arkham for instance)

As for the controller itself, it looks ok, but I really don't see any reason to use it over my trusty old 360 pad. As I said, I'll never play an fps with anything other than kbm, so unless it's better for driving or 3rd person, I'm gonna go with meh.

Oh and just in case anyone thinks I'm just hating on Valve, I'm drinking coffee at work from my aperture science mug and I have a signed poster of the TF2 heavy in my house

I like controllers and shooters so I am kind of hoping this will give me a more mouse like accuracy while being as comfortable as a controller. That doesn't seem to be the case according to this review but I want to see what people say once they get used to them.
I think I'll end up getting one eventually though because I'm kind of interested in it. But I'm in no hurry.

Is the right track pad really 1 to 1? I noticed settings for sensitivity and track ball setting in the video. I would think to turn off track ball and crank up the sensitivity for FPS...
