laurence dunmore's directorial debut 2004's "the libertine" starring Johnny depp,john malkovich and samantha morton.the film is about John wilmot the second earl of rochester played brilliantly by Johnny Depp.the kings poet and playwright is also a cynical and debaucherous lout who eventually succumbs to syphillis.
think Choggie in the 17th century.this movie went so un-noticed but is such a cinematic gem.malkovich and depp are brilliant.this is the opening scene.

wilmot was brilliant as he was abrasive.
he threw convention to the wind and made his own path even if that path ultimately destroyed him.
i respect a man like that.
