Author Robert Wright argues that history has an arrow: That humans have continued to evolve -- if not biologically, than culturally and technologically -- toward greater complexity and intelligence. He also explains the concept behind his book, "Nonzero": That life is a nonzero sum game, where there can be more than one winner, and that civilization evolved thanks to such endeavors, which reward cooperation, rather than competition. His guarded optimism is tinged with a deep worry over the growing prevalence of grass-roots hatred. His hope: that the intelligent pursuit of self-interest will actually be the world's salvation. Robert Wright is author of The Moral Animal and NonZero. He also hosts an excellent interview series called meaningoflife.tv.

Or, you can turn your head when an ambulance passes, and deny the drama game, this is a control mechanism of fear, instilled in the current paradigm by the power brokers, and those who place personal empire over an equitable, human experience.

Socially, the de-evolution is in full-effect, as is the way of any society that becomes out of touch with environs, fellow man, and basic common sense......

There will always be, as long as their is control by a few,
a predictable element of the base and mundane voyeurs.....comes with limited knowlege and mandatory pre-occupation with pointless toil....

I suppose it all comes down to how much damage a selfish 'zerosum' society, government or individiual (e.g. Rupert Murdoch) can cause. Can they turn back the tide of civilisation if they have enough influence or, more worryingly if their 'greed is good' ideologies catch on with others?

I wouldn't worry to much about that colinr, just watch as the law of diminishing returns starts smacking people around. Basically if you do the same thing over and over again you begin to lose, resources/credibility/ability to fearmonger/ratings over time. In other words, this to shall pass.
