Aubrey de Grey, British biogerontologist and founder of SENS, controversially claims to have created a roadmap to defeat biological aging. In this talk, he argues that aging - like other diseases - can be cured, and that humans can live for centuries, if only we approach the aging process as "an engineering problem."

Isn't this basically arguing that we will all live better quality lives as medicine improves? He's not the only one looking at improving quality of life - he certainly isn't arguing for immortality is he?

Having said that it was a very entertaining talk but stronger on evangelising than citing his research and presenting some results. I guess that's why he would need the full 18 hours...

Total crap.. this guy presents nothing but his pipe dreams and begs for money. No wonder his peers have forementioned opinion of this guy. How about some results, facts, or science.. Give my foundation 100M and I guarantee you I'll have immortal life by 2050! (Of course I may not be alive, by then, but keep the money coming)

I remember Wired's article on this guy a while ago. The man is intelligent in his own areas of specialty, but his ideas to "cure aging" are on the macromanagement level, meaning he has not made any significant advancements in terms of actual research or cure development. I look at this situation as being one of "put up or shut up".
