cheesemoosays...I don't understand - why wasn't the guy defending himself? The idea is that he is supposed to not get hit, right?
Chaucersays...he was wanting to touch gloves first as a act of sportsmanship. Unless he's been hit in the head to many times, I doubt he'll make that mistake twice.

I thought they touch gloves when the the ref is giving them instructions.
I don't think the guy was a poor sportsman. The bell rings, you come out fighting.
dannym3141says...They touch gloves now beforehand for that.. some even touch gloves after as well to show that "this isn't official and i am doing it because i must, i genuinely respect you" kinda thing... I think i've seen them doing that, but i could possibly be mistaking something, and of course it depends what boxing/fighting league you're talking about.
Even when people touch gloves after the bell when you're supposed to "come out fighting", every non-idiot does it cautiously.. not run in like a toddler chasing a piece of cake with your arms out like you can just reach it.
11527says...touching gloves by the ref is tradition, when you do it after the bell, thats showing respect
