Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits

This is the first single released by Dire Straits. Mark Knopfler's playing is unbelievably evocative. The live version has all the raw energy, power, and vitality of the band in its prime.

I love Dire Straits! I upvoted before even listening to this and most other Dire Straits videos!

Because in my early university days, my roommate would CONSTANTLY play nothing but Dire Straits and Credence Clearwater Revival... EVERY SINGLE FU@$!ING DAY. All I need to do is remember those days and I just hear Fortune Son and Money for Nothing...

Many rockers can make a simple guitar solo sound sweet with distortion and sustain. It's altogether different playing clean like Knopfler. It's a lot harder and that's why he's so damn good.

I know it's already in the tags, but red Reebok hi-tops and a white sweat band can only mean *80s!

As for Knopfler, his virtuosity and musicianship are impeccable. Some of his best is, imho, the country music he's recorded... check out the "Notting Hillbillies", his album with Chet Atkins is superb, and his more recent projects with Emmylou Harris are stunning.
