Not true. There are plenty of greats that have lived on. We just notice the ones who died. There are an equal number of mediocres who have died, we are just unlikely to remember/notice.
It's the classic thing where people remember all of the "lucky" things that have happened, but not the unlucky ones, and be more likely to thank Jesus for the touchdowns, than blame him for the fumbles.
