Soul Separates from Body in OR

Harvard-educated neurosurgeon Allan J. Hamilton talks about the miraculous and unexplainable things he has witnessed in the surgery room in THE SCALPEL AND THE SOUL.

Hmmmm... which is more likely? That the patient wasn't as "dead" as the doctor claims she was? Or that a magic ghost heard the details of the conversation outside of the body and "remembered" it when the patient came back to?

While the stories are probably very very interesting and definitely point to the fact that we don't understand the human brain very well, I suspect that this doc is just pandering to the pseudo-sciency types of explanations because they sell FAR more books than real science and will get him a LOT more publicity.

Now, having not read the book, it is hard for me to say if he jumps to excessive bs conclusions, but the way this is marketed in this piece definitely makes it seem more sensational than objective.

(upvote because I love discussions and pseudo-science!)

So he went from the fact that there was no measurable brain activity to the fact that a soul must exist. This guy is making the same assumptions that many religious folks have been making for thousands of years - if something can't be explained then god must have done it. So gotta agree with @ponceleon and @HollywoodBob on this one, this guys in it for the dollars.

Well, when someone is put under for surgery, it's not like going to sleep. It's just chemicals suppressing brain functions causing you to go unconscious. I can totally see someone on the op-table not having any conscious memory of feeling or seeing anything but could possibly not have the ear affected by the anesthetic and the brain records everything that was said in the room.

Just my very uneducated guess.
