Footage from What Dreams May Come combined with Sigur Ros. Wonderful visual fantasy tracking a man's quest to find his wife in Heaven and Hell.
What Dreams May Come is a 1998 dramatic film, starring Robin Williams, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Annabella Sciorra. The movie is based on the 1978 novel of the same name by Richard Matheson, and was directed by Vincent Ward. The title comes from a famous line in Hamlet's soliloquy in Act 3, scene 1 (To be, or not to be), specifically, "For in that sleep of death what dreams may come / When we have shuffled off this mortal coil." Scenes in the movie, as well as the plot outline in the novel, contain several allegorical references to Dante Alighieri's 1308 epic poem The Divine Comedy. It won an Academy Award for its visual effects. It was also nominated for the Academy Award for Best Art Direction.

Farhad2000says...I loved this film, the art style and special effects were astounding. I really wish I had watched it on the large screen. Werner Herzog makes a cameo appearance as one of the damned, which was hilarious.
Hopefully one day someone will adopt The Divine Comedy on the big screen or better yet as a HBO mini-series.

kronosposeidonsays...Should I be ashamed that I enjoyed a film with Robin Williams in it?
Not this one.
I don't think I like it as well as you do, Farhad, but I still think it's an imaginative and moving story. Nice pick.
budzossays...I saw this movie opening night. Found it very enjoyable to watch once, but like most Robin Williams, too syrupy sweet to have much replay value. Then there is the Cuba Gooding effect to consider. Blech. The visuals were really awesome, especially the "paint world" part of heaven.
