American helps Russia win Eurobasket 2007 in the last minute

tip: watch the darker gentleman.
Having trailed most of the game, Russia (in white) pull back to one point behind. With only seconds to go, Holden, an american playing for Russia, steals the ball and just chills for a while letting the clock run out... then...

how he got his russian passport (basically putin gave it to him):

that's a nice article. this is a really big deal actually, there's a lot of racism around eastern europe, i am pretty sure this is a positive story.

quote from the article:
Yes, the money is great, but the exposure to the world beyond America's borders is something he cannot put a price on.

"The culture, there's just a whole world out there to see," Holden said, "and if you're close-minded to that, you miss out."

LOL love it when this kinda thing happens.

Japan did the same thing back in world cup 1998 when they rushed to give this Brazilian dude a citizenship within few months or so to play for the Japanese national soccer team.

^what are you talking about, america's a nation of immigrants

i think it isn't comparable going the other way (russia to USA). Anyway Holden's attitude is "when i play basketball, i am Russian"... he says it's no different to working for a foreign company... and with the amount of commercialisation in sport i guess he's (sadly?) right.
