CHA!
From
http://moonpublicity.com/mp/ "Many people are violently opposed to creating commercial images on the Moon. Oddly enough, here at Moon Publicity we feel the same way. If it were only for monetary gain, it would be unethical to deface the beauty of our only natural satellite.
"However, consider the big picture. What is the biggest problem in the world? Is it hunger? Is it illness? Is it war? No. The largest problem is the inevitable extinction of the human species. The other problems don’t matter in a universe without people. Any number of global catastrophes could and will end live on Earth eventually. It could be a collision with an asteroid, a deadly virus, a nuclear war, a supervolcano, a hypernova explosion or our own sun eventually swallowing the Earth.
"Space travel is more than just footprints and flags; it is vital to our survival. Just as we back up hard drives in case they crash, we need to back up mankind on other worlds.
"Who will do it? Governments? Forty years ago man walked on the Moon. Where have we walked since? It is time that we find a way. Creating images on the Moon provides a commercial incentive for turbo charging space travel technology. Shadows are only the beginning. These advancements will eventually place robots on other worlds building space stations and planting crops.
"Shadow Shaping only works during partial phases of the Moon. The full Moon will always be the same. If shadows form a logo during a quarter moon, it will be a small price to pay for saving mankind.
"If you have a better idea, we would love to hear it."

joedirtlol.. imagine how little distance the mars rovers travelled. Then imagine what kind of sq miles are required to make something visible from Earth.. It will be a minimum of hundreds of years of robots driving around the moon (and never breaking or dealing with boulders/craters/etc)
Now a barrage of missles might do it...
demon_ixConditions on The Moon are much different than conditions on Mars. It's much closer, allowing instant communication, it has no atmosphere, so no weather and storms and it's about half the size of Mars.
Since the rovers there won't be on scientific missions, but only on surface-carving patrols, the rovers would be much lighter and less power-hungry, and could be a lot cheaper than a Mars rover, allowing the sending of several robots simultaneously to draw different parts of the image.
Since the moon has no real atmosphere, sunlight would be much brighter in daylight hours, allowing for quicker solar panel recharging.
I'm against it, by the way. I don't really want to look at the moon and see a McDonalds logo.
Razorsays...+1 for The Tick reference =)
