Red ring of death returns at GDC 08

Microsoft wants consumers to believe that its problems with the Xbox 360 console in terms of hardware failure are over.

But wandering through the Game Developers Conference halls and it's clear that the problem persists.

On Microsoft's own stand at the show one of the demo consoles has a rather familiar problem - the red ring of death. There's no way of knowing if this particular console was manufactured before or after Microsoft identified the problems with the machines.

But at the very least it's embarrassing for the company that its own stock of demo machines are still susceptible to the problem. (From BBC News)

The red ring of death doesn't always specifically mean that the console is down for the count.

I used to work as a customer support representative until the live servers went down for 3 months, and decided that the money wasn't worth people calling in and saying that they were entitled to something for it being down..

Back on track, red ring can be caused by a bad power supply or source, or even just having the power cables not being plugged in properly.

You'd be surprised at how often you can fix 3 red lights by taking it out of a surge protector and plugging it directly to a wall.

I would have to say, The best thing I ever heard was someone called in and said "I've got the three red horsemen of the apocalypse on the front of my console"

I got the red "almost a ring" of death on my first Xbox 360 after only two weeks. I returned it to the store and got another one that has worked perfectly ever since. 26 months and counting.

Hahaha "The three red horsemen of the apocalypse" that's hilarious.

Uh, people ARE entitled to something if Xbox Live is down. XBL is a pay service, and its pretty reasonable to expect you'll be able to access the service without days of interruption. Occasionally taking the service down for an hour for patching or maintenance is fine, but 3 months is unacceptable. Not faulting you for quitting, though. I used to do Customer Service for Dish Network, and that was no picnic. You can only take so many profanity laced phone calls from people foaming at the mouth because their TV doesn't work.

Unfortunately people aren't, which was the big problem. The terms of service basically signs your money away the moment you hit "Accept", and it even says that it's not a warrentied service, and since it's not warrentied they (Not me) wouldn't allow any compensation until they finally gave out the live arcade game.

I'm not saying it's right, i'm saying it just sucked because nobody realised that it wasn't me deciding "No..I don't think I'm gonna give you anything for that <evil maniacle laughter here>"
