Psychologicsays...I bet they'd support it if it gave all employees the free choice not to join unions.
9232says...I don't get how that guy can say union workers are against the Employee Free Choice Act. Is there opinion poll data that confirms this?
MaxWildersays...Ok, taking a wild guess here... The Rupubs think that they would-be union leaders could intimidate the workers into a non-secret vote or signature drive, at which point they could then intimidate each individual to vote or sign up for the union.
I don't know if that's really what they are thinking, but I have to agree that a secret vote is the only way to go. It would avoid intimidation from both union leaders and management.
Am I mis-interpreting this?
9232says...Reading about this Act on Wikipedia makes my head hurt. Lots of fighting in the discussion section of it too..
yourhydrasays...the student teachers union held up my universities school year by three months. most of them didn't even support the strike but they had to because they HAVE to be in the union for pay benefits. yay...school into the summer.
maximilliansays...Unions are not needed in the majority of businesses in the US. They are shrinking in the private sector and growing in government jobs. They add cost to a company without really adding value.
This act removes the power of the secret ballot. If a majority of workers agree to a union with a "card check" then a secret ballot is not required. So unions will utilize pressure and even dubious methods to obtain a simple majority so companies cannot request a secret ballot. A common dubious method is to simply use a "sign in sheet" for a meeting. They say, "sign in so we have a record of your visit." Unbeknown to the employee they just signed a "card check" and basically voted for the union.
This act makes it easier for unions to get in and harder to remove them. It is bad for America.
FNORDcincosays...NOT EUROPE!
thehelixsays...Could there be anything worse than the US being more like Europe? It brings tears to my eyes just to think of it.
