Oh wow! I had no idea they turned this into a movie, these were a great set of novels, Satrapi is excellent... I'm glad to see they stuck with her original artwork, and didn't go all 300 on it.

I haven't spoken French since college, and even then it was crappy, so is this movie available with English subtitles? Because even though I understood only a little bit of what they were saying I could definitely get the gist of the story and it looks like it would be very entertaining.

An english language version (no subtitles) is on the way in December. Luckily, they actually let Satrapi write and direct the adaptation

I saw the French version with English subtitles at this year's Toronto Film Festival. It was very, very good -- I didn't think that there'd be a better animated film than Ratatouille this year, but I think Persepolis gives it a run for its money.

Well if you bothered looking at the comments you probably want to know what they're on about:

The men are selling Western music on the black market: Stevie Wonder, Julio Iglesias, Pink Floyd, Jichael Mackson (!) but she barters for Iron Maiden. Then she meets two female Revolution Guardians (women who ensure everyone dresses modestly, amongst other things). They ask her "What are these punk shoes", then see her Michael Jackson badge and scream "This symbol of Western decadence!", but the girl protests and says "Not at all, it's Malcolm X!". :-)
