Penn and Teller reveal how "Lift Off" trick works

k8_fansays...

The funny part is that they actually invent the tricks they reveal. For instance, they invented a completely different way of doing the classic "Cups and Balls", arguably the single oldest magic trick in the world. So, while this LOOKS like an old Mark Wilson/Doug Henning style over-blown piece of 70s-era magic, this is a new piece.

Part of their act is the "Bad Boys of Magic", but the truth is they both have a deep love and respect for magic, and Teller is a well-regarded magic historian. What they have a beef with is the type of magic that depends more on the depth of the magician's wallet than his or her skill. A skilled magician can enthrall an audience with nothing more than a deck of cards, a coin, etc.

Disclaimer: I'm the son of a magician and a former ventriloquist (I got well).
